It was a record-setting year for the Cerritos College men's tennis team and the awards received are just an indication of that success. The Falcons, champions of the South Coast Conference, were rewarded with post-season accolades, as head coach Alvin Kim was named the Head Coach of the Year, Jony Chai was selected as the Assistant Coach of the Year, while sophomore Nathan Eshmade (Kings Baptist, Australia HS) was voted the conference's Player of the Year.

Eshmade, who became the first Cerritos player to win the CCCAA State Championship in singles and doubles, was also selected as the State Player of the Year. He went the season undefeated in singles play (28-0) and was named 1st Team All-SCC, while he and freshman Amadi Kagoma (Malezi School, Kenya HS) garnered 1st Team All-SCC in doubles. Eshmade, the ITA Player of the Year, won the conference title, while he and Kagoma were 24-2 on the season and won the conference championship.

Also earning 1st Team recognition in singles play are Kagoma, along with freshman Sheldon Hseih (Long Beach Poly HS) and Nicholas Simonelli (Long Beach Wilson HS). Kagoma, who lost in the conference semifinals in singles, advanced to the Round of 16 at the state championships before being forced to withdraw due to cramps and finished the year with a 22-3 record. Hseih, who lost to Eshmade in the conference semifinals, played in all six singles positions on the year and went 21-4, while Simonelli was 10-13 in singles. Simonelli and Hseih, who lost to Eshmade and Kagoma in the conference championship match, finished the year with a 13-11 record together.

In Kim's 10 seasons as the Falcons head coach, he has led them to eight conference championships and marks the fifth time he has been named the conference's Coach of the Year.
