The Cerritos College men's tennis team won five of the six singles matches, which propelled them to a 7-2 non-conference home victory over Mt. San Jacinto College on Friday. The win improved the Falcons record to 3-2 on the year and the team will now travel to Grossmont College on Tuesday for a 2:00 p.m. non-conference match.
Although Cerritos won five singles matches, two of them in the final spots on the ladder were extended to a third set. Sophomore Mark Herrera (Bosco Tech HS) and freshman Sheldon Hseih (Long Beach Poly HS) bounced back after dropping the second set and secured the team victory with their three-set wins. Herrera posted a 6-3, 5-7, 6-3 win in the #5 position against the Eagles former #1 player, with Hseih coming away with a 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 win.
At the top of the ladder, sophomore Nathan Eshmade (Kings Baptist, Australia HS) remained undefeated with a 7-5, 6-0 win against Vitinho Galvao, while freshman Amadi Kagoma (Malezi School, Kenya HS) easily won, 6-1, 6-0. The other singles victory came when freshman Milos Zoric (Gimnazija Indijija, Serbia HS) registered a 7-5, 6-3 win.
Doubles action saw Eshmade and Kagoma shut out Galavao and Bruno Campos, with Hseih teaming with freshman Nicholas Simonelli (Long Beach Wilson HS) for an 8-6 win.
