Led by three school records and one individual championship, the Cerritos College women's swimming team finished in fourth place at the South Coast Conference Championships, which were held at East Los Angeles College. The Falcons posted 413 team points and held off the host Huskies, who finished with 398 team points. Those who qualified for the CCCAA State Championships will be announced on Monday.

Sophomore Amanda Loya (St. Joseph HS) capped off her weekend with her third school record, as she recorded a time of 2:27.77 to finish second in the 200-yard breaststroke. It's the first year community colleges have competed in 200-yard events and Loya's time was one of two that broke the conference record. East LA's Yingfei Zhang won the event with a new record time of 2:23.55, which was eight seconds faster than her qualifying time.

In the last event of the championships, the foursome of Loya, Angela Covarrubias (Paramount HS), Celeste Ibarra (Gahr HS) and Elizabeth Alfaro (Gahr HS) posted a fifth place time of 3:55.72. The Falcons clinched fourth place as a team as a result of the personal best times turned in by both Stephanie Alfaro (Gahr HS) and Ibarra in the 200-yard butterfly, which is the toughest event of any swim meet. Stephanie Alfaro turned in a fifth place time of 2:35.27, while Ibarra was close behind with a clocking of 2:37.78 to come in sixth place. Elizabeth Alfaro also earned a sixth place in the 100-yard freestyle in a time of 57.84.
