Cerritos College sophomore swimmer Amanda Loya (St. Joseph HS) opened the CCCAA State Championships on Thursday with a 12th place finish in the 200-yard IM. Swimming at East Los Angeles College, Loya is competing in one event each day, and will swim the 100-yard breaststroke on Friday and the 200-yard breaststroke on Saturday.

In the 200-yard IM, Loya posted a time of 2:15.74 in the prelims and missed out on one of the top eighty spots for the championship finals. She came back later that day and recorded a time of 2:15.83 for her 12th place finish. Last week, Loya set a new school record in the event with a time of 2:12.93.
