On the first of the Battle at the Beach Tournament on Friday, the Cerritos College women's water polo team dropped their two games. The Falcons (6-14), were defeated in the opening game of the day, 18-3 by defending state champion Fullerton College and then suffered a 7-3 setback at the hands of Grossmont College. Both games were played at the Falcon Aquatic Center. On Saturday, Cerritos will play a pair of games at Cypress College, with their first contest set for 8:00 a.m.

In the game against the Hornets, freshman Vanessa Hinojosa (Bell Gardens HS) gave the team an early 1-0 lead. But it wouldn't be until midway through the second period until they got their second goal of the game. By then, it was an 8-2 Fullerton advantage. Cerritos was held scoreless in the second half. Hinojosa scored two of the team's goals, with sophomore goalie Amanda Rabb (Gahr HS) making three saves and added a pair of steals. Freshman Channon Owens (Kennedy HS) led the team with three steals, with four players posting two steals.

The Falcons were able to get their shots off against the Griffins in their second game of the day. However, they struggled to score and saw a 3-3 tie result in a 7-3 loss. Freshman Jenny Parra (Schurr HS) led off the game with a goal, with Hinojosa scoring to make it a 2-1 game in the second quarter. After the Griffins tied the game, Hinojosa put the team on top for the third time with 4:47 left in the second quarter. For the second game in a row, Cerritos was held off the scoreboard in the second half and finished the game with 31 shot attempts. Parra led the team with three steals, with Rabb turning away two shots.
