Opening a home-and-home series with Oxnard College on Tuesday, the Cerritos College baseball team recorded a 7-6 non-conference win on the road. The win snapped a six-game losing skid for the Falcons (9-20-1), who will host the Condors (6-24) at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday.

Cerritos opened the scoring in the top of the first inning when freshman third baseman Luis Chavarin, Jr. (Sonora HS) singled home a pair of runs, while freshman outfielder Julian Francois (Serra HS) added an RBI base hit. Through two innings, the game was tied, 4-4, but the Falcons put three runs on the board in the fourth inning, which would turn out to be the difference in the game.

Freshman outfielder Lucas Iorgulescu (Marina HS) led off with a walk, with sophomore designated hitter Alex Bueno (Centennial, NV HS) getting hit by a pitch for the third time on the day. A single by freshman catcher Daniel Mariscal, Jr. (Long Beach Poly HS) loaded the bases for Chavarin, who brought in the first run of the inning with a sacrifice fly. With the bases remaining loaded after a single by freshman second baseman Dean Ormonde (Long Beach Millikan HS), Francois drove in the next run on another sacrifice fly. Freshman first baseman Moses Dokes (Santa Barbara HS) followed with what would be the game-winning run on his RBI single.

Freshman starting pitcher Jael Leal (Gahr HS) tossed the first five innings and was charged with all six runs. He was leading, 7-6 at the time he left the game and picked up his second win of the season. Freshman Steven Salazar (Sonora HS), making his first relief appearance of the season, pitched the final four innings and recorded the save. Salazar has served as a starting pitcher in his first nine appearances this year.

Mariscal went 3-for-4 with a pair of runs scored, while freshman outfielder Jason Givens (Santa Fe HS) and Iorgulescu each recorded two hits in the game. Chavarin drove in a season-high three runs in the win.
