After the first two series of South Coast Conference play, the Cerritos College baseball team is still looking for their first series win. Their 9-1 loss to East Los Angeles College on Saturday dropped the team's record to 5-11-1 overall and 1-5 in conference play. The Falcons will open a three-game series with Compton College on Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. at Kincaid Field.

Trailing 1-0 after two innings, the Falcons tied the game when freshman catcher Daniel Mariscal, Jr. (Long Beach Poly HS) opened the inning by reaching on an error and found himself at third base after a failed pick-off attempt. Freshman outfielder Miles Velez (St. Paul HS) then drove homE Mariscal, Jr., with a  base hit, but was cut down heading back into first base after rounding the bag.

The Huskies chased starting pitcher J'amore' Ward (Gahr HS) in the fourth inning, while a trio of relief pitchers surrendered two runs over the next 3 2/3 innings. It was a 5-1 game until East LA scored four times in the bottom of the eighth inning off the fifth pitcher of the day.

Cerritos missed out on several scoring chances, including the fourth inning when freshman second baseman Dean Ormonde (Long Beach Millikan HS) led off with a single, with freshman first baseman Sawyer Chesley (Laguna Beach HS) also slapping a singlr with one out. A pair of infield ground balls ended that scoring chance. Ormonde and freshman third baseman Lucas Iorgulescu (Marina HS) opened the sixth with base hits, but were stranded when they could not be advanced.

Ormonde, Iorgulesco and Velez accounted for six of the team's eight hits on the day.
