On Thursday, the Cerritos College baseball team collected 10 hits, but had difficulty turning those into runs, as they suffered a 7-2 loss to El Camino College. The loss to the Warriors dropped the Falcons to 7-14-1 overall and 3-8 in South Coast Conference play. The two teams will close out their three-game series at noon on Saturday at Kincaid Field.

After leaving a pair of runners on base in the first inning, Cerritos got on the board in the second inning when freshmen Dean Ormonde (Long Beach Millikan HS) and Elijah Fountain (Grand Lake, LA) slapped two-out singles. That led to an RBI single from freshman Julian Francois (Serra HS). Once again, the Falcons stranded two runners on base.

The Warriors responded by scoring three runs off freshman starting pitcher Jael Leal (Gahr HS), who lasted 3 1/3 innings before making way for freshman Elias Torres (Long Beach Poly HS), who recorded the final two outs of the inning. Down 3-1, sophomore Alex Bueno (Centennial, NV HS) brought the Falcons to within a run with a solo home run in the top of the sixth inning. Cerritos looked to add to their run total in the inning after sophomore Hasan Standifer (San Pedro HS/Jackson State University) and Ormonde singled with two outs. They would be left on the bases after the third out was recorded.

The Warriors made it a 4-2 game with a single run in the bottom of the seventh inning and then put the game out of reach with three more runs in the bottom of the eighth inning.

Bueno, Standifer and Ormonde all had two hits for Cerritos.
