After spotting host Compton College a 3-0 lead through the first six innings, the Cerritos College baseball team came back for a 6-4 South Coast Conference win on Thursday. The win by the Falcons (7-11-1, 3-5) was their second in as many games against the Tartars (4-14, 1-4), with the teams meeting up for the third game of their series at noon on Saturday at Kincaid Field.

Compton scored three times in the bottom of the second inning against freshman starting pitcher Jael Leal (Gahr HS), who pitched the first five innings. Cerritos started their comeback with a pair of runs in the top of the seventh inning.

Freshman first baseman Sawyer Chesley (Laguna Beach HS) reached base on an error and then advanced to second base on a base hit by freshman Luis Chavarin, Jr., (Sonora HS) with a walk to freshman outfielder outfielder Terril Steen, Jr. (North Torrance HS) loading the bases. Freshman catcher Daniel Castellanos (Gahr HS) then lifted a fly ball that drove in Chesley for a sacrifice fly, accounting for the first run of the inning. Freshman outfielder Jason Givens (Santa Fe HS) drew a walk to load the bases, while a walk to freshman outfielder Julian Francois (Serra HS) brought in the second run of the inning.

In the ninth inning, freshman Miles Velez (St. Paul HS) came in to pinch-hit and drew a walk. After a sacrifice bunt advanced Velez, freshman Andy Vega (Mary Star of the Sea HS) was intentionally walked as a pinch-hitter. Givens tied the game with an RBI single, and after a fielder's choice by freshman Dean Ormonde (Long Beach Millikan HS) made it a 4-3 Falcons lead, freshman Lucas Iorgulescu (Marina HS) drove in a pair with a two-out double.

The bullpen came on in the sixth inning, and the Falcons saw freshmen Joseph Cossette (Laguna Hills HS), Dawson Holbrook (Godinez HS) and Carter Stoddard (Sunny Hills HS) limit Compton to just one hit. Freshman Noah Perelman (Edison HS) earned the save after pitching the ninth inning and allowed one run.
