Morgan Fennell threw four TD passes and rushed for another in the Falcons 46-30 win over Fullerton.
If there was any concern about the health or accuracy of his passes after the first weekend, Cerritos College sophomore quarterback Morgan Fennell (Long Beach Poly HS) silenced all of that talk. On the first play from scrimmage against Fullerton College on Saturday afternoon, Fennell threw a perfect 75-yard touchdown pass to freshman wide receiver Ricky Carrigan, Jr. (Cabrillo HS), which was followed by three more touchdown strikes, as the Falcons (1-1) handed the host Hornets a 46-30 setback at Fullerton Union High School. Cerritos will now host Mt. San Antonio College at 7:00 p.m. next Saturday, which serves as a rematch of the last two Southern California Championship games, won by the Mounties.

Fennell, who struggled in the team's loss to Los Angeles Harbor College last weekend, converted 11-of-16 passes for a career-high 269 yards, which includes a pair of TD strikes to sophomore wide receiver Robert Abeyta (Servite HS), along with the Carrigan Jr. and sophomore Garion Manning (Long Beach Wilson HS) each reaching the end zone via a Fennell toss. Fennell also finished off the day by rushing for a four-yard touchdown in the final minute of the game to close out the scoring. He also was forced to leave the game on two separate occasions due to an injury, but came back both times and continued tossing touchdown passes.

The Falcons opened up a 14-0 first quarter lead, thanks to a pair of long strikes, with Abeyta beating Corey Ferguson on a 47-yard TD pass with 5:44 left in the first quarter. By halftime, the Hornets (1-1) had tied the game at 14-13, thanks to a pair of Conor Bednarski touchdown passes.

By the start of the second half, both teams were able to expose the other's defense, which started with the Falcons opening drive of the third quarter. Cerritos drove 65 yards on just three plays, with the big play being a 43-yard catch by Carrigan Jr. (4 catches, 134 yards), while sophomore running back Donald Livingston (Savanna HS) punched the ball in from four yards out later in the quarter. On the extra point attempt, Melvin Lewis blocked the kick with Najee James scooping up the ball and returning it for a two-point PAT return. Livingston finished the game with 116 yards to break the 100-yard barrier for the second week in a row.

But by then, the team's offense was in full stride, and the Falcons opened up a 27-16 lead when Manning hauled in a 31-yard touchdown, as he was left wide open. After a Fullerton answer, freshman running back Dominique Small (Mayfair HS) scored from eight yards out. Before the game ended, Abeyta caught an 18-yard pass with Fennell adding his rushing touchdown.

The defense limited the Hornets to just 302 yards and picked off Bednarski and backup quarterback Jose Escobar a total of three times on the day, with two of them leading to scoring plays. Sophomore linebacker Chass Glaspie(Westchester HS) led the team with seven stops, while freshman linebacker Anthony Carrion (St. John Bosco HS) finished with six stops, as did sophomore defensive back Vailele Peko (La Habra HS/Saginaw Valley State), who also picked off a pass and returned a kickoff 32 yards. Four of his tackles came on special teams.
