Playing their first game away from home this season, the Cerritos College men's soccer team recorded a 2-0 win over the host team at the Hartnell Tournament on Friday. The win was the third in as many games for the Falcons (3-0-0), who will play again on Sunday at the tournament. It also marked the second shutout for Cerritos on the year.

Using another decidedly dominant defensive performance, the Falcons limited their second opponent to without a shot on goal. Cerritos scored their two goals against Hartnell in the first half to take a lead they would not relinquish.

"The guys are starting to improve tremendously on offense," said head coach Benny Artiaga after the win. "Defensively, we have been on it all year. I'm proud of the guys and their progression. The was a tough Hartnell team and Fresno City will be tough. Hopefully, the guys can bring (the championship) home."

In the 11th minute, sophomore Bryan Ortega (Paramount HS) was able to put the team on the board when he chipped in a pass from freshman Armando Ibarra, Jr. (Downey HS). It was the second goal of the season for Ortega and second in as many games.

Continuing their offensive push, the Falcons doubled their lead in extra time of the first half, as sophomore Mark Mendoza (South Gate HS) recorded his first goal of the year. Sophomore Kevin Diaz (Connections Academy HS), picked up his third assist of the season, which would close out the scoring on the day.

Freshman Luis Enciso (Gahr HS) earned his third win of the season and was not asked to make any saves.
