The Cerritos College softball team saw their three runs in the third inning hold up in a 3-2 non-conference win over Santa Ana College on Thursday afternoon. This weekend, the Falcons (2-0) will compete in the College of the Desert Tournament and play twice on Friday and Saturday.

Trailing 1-0 heading into the stanza, Cerritos pushed three runs across. With one out, sophomore Joanna Perruccio (Long Beach Wilson HS) was hit by a pitch and stole second base. Freshman shortstop Jenny Collazo (Paramount HS) drew a walk before sophomore catcher Krystal Purkey (Gahr HS) singled with two outs to tie the game. Freshman outfielder Jasmine Javier (Cerritos HS) loaded the bases with a single, which was followed by a walk to sophomore second baseman Monique Ramirez (Torrance HS), which forced in a run. Freshman pitcher Jennifer Navarro (Warren HS) brought home the third run with an infield single.

Navarro (1-0) tossed the first five innings and faced the first two batters in the sixth inning before stepping aside for sophomore Ana Pedroza (La Mirada HS/Caldwell (NJ) College). Paolena Comouche and Kori Cochran opened the inning with base hits, while the both advanced a base on a wild pitch. Emily Whitecavage walked to load the bases before Kaitlyn Harvey hit into a double play, while Melissa Moser bounced back to Pedroza for the final out.

The Dons (1-1) pushed a run across in the seventh inning against Pedroza, who received a two force outs at third base before a fly ball ended the threat.

Javier had two hits for the Falcons, while Collazo drew a pair of walks and scored a run in the win.
