Softball: Struggles continue for Falcons

After taking an early 3-0 lead in their non-conference game at Cypress College on Saturday, the Cerritos College softball team was outscored 6-1 the rest o the game, which resulted in a 6-4 loss. The defeat was the third in a row for the Falcons, who will now host their next two South Coast Conference games, with the first on Tuesday at 3:00 p.m. against Los Angeles Harbor College.

In the top of the second inning, freshman outfielder Jasmine Javier (Cerritos HS) led off with a walk, while sophomore catcher Krystal Purkey (Gahr HS) followed with a base hit. On a bunt by freshman Raquel Norzagary (Pioneer HS), Charger pitcher Taylor Ebner threw the ball away, which allowed Javier to score. An infield single by sophomore second baseman Monique Ramirez (Torrance HS) loaded the bases for sophomore outfielder Joanna Perruccio (Long Beach Wilson HS), who drew a walk to force in a run.

The final run of the inning came when sophomore third baseman Crystal Cano (Norwalk HS/Lynn (FL) University) fouled out, with all three runners avancing.

Freshman pitcher Jennifer Navarro (Warren HS) struggled in the circle and allowed six runs on 12 hits to take her third loss in a row.

The Falcons had two hits in the second inning and only two more the remainder of the game, with Purkey driving in the team's other run in the sixth inning.
