One week ago, the Cerritos College women's basketball team defeated three opponents to win the San Diego Mesa Tournament. Over the weekend, the Falcons entered the Santa Barbara City Tournament and lost their first two games and were eliminated. They opened with a 73-49 setback against San Bernardino Valley College and followed that with a 61-42 loss to Grossmont. In the first tournament of the year, Cerritos defeated Grossmont, 65-42 in their season-opening game. The Falcons (3-2) will now defend their two straight championships at the College of the Sequoias Tournament, which starts on November 29.

In the loss to the Indians (3-1), shooting 9-of-33 from the field in the first half contributed to the team's 31-23 deficit, but poor shooting and turnovers didn't help in the second half. The duo of sophomores Diamond Roberts (Mayfair HS) and Marissa Rendon (St. Paul HS) each scored 13 points, but were a combined 10-of-26 from the field. Roberts added six rebounds, with sophomore Angela Pena (Huntington Park College Ready Academy HS) pulling down a team-high eight rebounds. Freshman Nia Lateju (Norwalk HS) came off the bench to contribute eight points and seven rebounds, while sophomore Deenesha Bee (Pioneer HS) finishing with six points and six rebounds.

Shooting woes continued the following day against the Griffins (1-3), as the Falcons were 9-of-35 in the first half and fell behind, 36-20. Additionally, the team was out-rebounded, 39-27 and didn't have any players score in double-figures. As for Grossmont, they were led by a trio of players in double-figures. Roberts (nine points, five rebounds, three assists) and Bee (seven points) were the top scorers, with Pena dishing out a season-high six assists.
