The Cerritos College wrestling team concluded Southwest Conference action on Wednesday night with a 41-3 win over host Rio Hondo College. The Falcons (11-3, 4-1), ranked #3 in the state, will now compete in the East LA Brawl on November 23 before they embark on the Southern California Regional Tournament.

In addition to one forfeit win for Cerritos, they picked up two pins and a pair of technical falls. The match started off with a pair of close wins before the Falcons put the team result out of reach. It started at 141 pounds, where freshman Dustin Kirk (Elsinore HS) competed for the first time at that weight and recorded a 14-6 lead after leading 8-0 after the first period. Freshman Eric Ambriz (Lake Elsinore HS) followed with a 16-1 technical fall win at 149 pounds, with the match halted in the second period. Ambriz led, 13-1 after the first three minutes, thanks in part to a pair of three-point near-falls.

The night continued with sophomore Brian Simmons (Hemet HS) posting a 15-0 technical fall at 157 pounds, which started off as a 7-0 lead after the first period. The match was halted when Simmons recorded his third near-fall of the match. Sophomore Eddie Rogers (Martin Luther King HS) made quick work at 165 pounds with a first period pin, while freshman Jeremiah Gerl (Downey Calvary Chapel HS) moved up to 197 pounds and registered a second period fall after he fell behind, 4-1 after the first period. Gerl turned things around in the second period and outscored his opponent, 8-0 before the pin.

Sophomore Timothy Garnica (North Torrance HS) earned a forfeit win at 174 pounds, while freshman Maxwell Kumashiro (Los Alamitos HS) competed at 184 pounds for the second time this season and came away with a 7-3 win. Also picking up victories were freshman Gary Howe (Los Alamitos HS), a 9-7 winner at 125 pounds and freshman Samuel Holandez (Carson HS), who posted a 6-4 win at 133 pounds.
