Not only did the Cerritos College women's water polo team improve to 3-0 in South Coast Conference play after their 24-6 win over host Pasadena City College on Wednesday, they saw a school record set. Freshman goalkeeper Fenix Nolasco (Paramount HS) set a new single-game record with 22 saves on the day, which eclipses the old standard of 18 saves set by Alyssa Sorrell against Citrus College on September 30, 2022. Cerritos (3-6, 3-0) will now host a one-day tournament on Friday and will host Southwestern College (9:00 a.m.) and Grossmont College (2:00 p.m.).

With her 22 saves, Nolasco moves into the state's Top 10 for season saves with 94.

The Falcons sprinted out to a quick 3-0 lead, with freshman Sophia Wainwright (Cerritos HS) accounting for two of the goals, while the team held a 7-4 lead after the first period. Cerritos was able to outscore the Lancers (0-3, 0-3), 17-2 the remainder of the game for the comfortable win.

In addition to her 22 saves on the day, Nolasco even scored a goal at the buzzer to end the first half. She was one of six Cerritos players to score at least one goal.

Freshman Kayla Soleymani (Cerritos HS) led the team with a season-high seven goals, with freshman Fiona Glynn (Cerritos HS) contributing six goals, two assists and two steals. Wainwright, who ended the game with four goals, assisted in three more, with the duo of Citlali Antonio (El Rancho HS) and Kylee McKenna (Sky Mountain Charter HS) each scoring three times.
