With their 79 team points, the Cerritos College men's track and field team came in third place at the Southern California Championships on Saturday. The Falcons, who have qualified 11 entries into the CCCAA State Championships, trailed only Mt. San Antonio College and Riverside City College in the team scoring.

As a team, Cerritos won a pair of events, as freshman Virjilio Griggs (Warren, TX HS) posted a first place time of 21.35 in the 200 meters, while sophomore Anthony Lozano (La Serna HS) completed the 1500 meters with a time of 3:51.89. Griggs, who was also expected to qualify in the 400 meters, failed to compete in the race due to a false start. Freshman Juan Ward, who holds the school record in the 110-meter HH at 14.15, which is also the best time in the state, was disqualified in the event when he failed to complete the race after hitting a hurdle. As a result, he will not be competing in the state championships.

Sophomore Matthew Seawright (Long Beach Millikan HS) broke his own school record in the hammer for the third time this season. He took second in the event with a throw of 56.81 meters. Seawright qualified for the state championships in three events.
