W. Water Polo: Falcons post 9-4 conference win

On Wednesday, the Cerritos College women's water polo team posted a 9-4 South Coast Conference win over host Pasadena City College. The victory by the Falcons improved their conference record to 3-0, while they are now 8-3 on the season. Their next match will be a 3:00 p.m. conference game at Chaffey College next Wednesday.

Leading 2-0 after the first quarter, Cerritos extended their lead to 4-1 by halftime in a tight defensive game by the Falcons. Sophomore Vanessa Hinojosa (Bell Gardens HS) scored once in each of the first two quarters, while an early third quarter goal by freshman Isabella Sierra (California HS) put the team in the lead, 5-1.

Heading into the fourth period, the Falcons opened up their 5-2 advantage on goals by sophomores Maria Figueroa (Schurr HS) and Mikaela Padilla (Schurr HS), while Hinojosa closed out the scoring in the final 34 seconds with her third of the game.

Freshman Elisa Prohroff (Schurr HS) dished out a team-high four assists, while Sierra added five steals and two helpers for Cerritos. As a team, the Falcons recorded 22 steals, with Hinojosa, Prohroff and sophomore Jenny Parra (Schurr HS) all recording three. Freshman goalie Ivanna Tostado (Troy HS) posted four saves and allowed just one goal in the first half, with freshman Dulce Medina (Paramount HS) playing the second half and adding one save.
