On Friday, the Cerritos College beach volleyball team posted a 4-1 win over host Irvine Valley College, but was on the losing end of a 5-0 decision against MiraCosta College. The Falcons (3-3) will travel to Moorpark College next Friday to take on the host Raiders, as well as Riverside City College.

The matches were played in a steady rain, with the match against MiraCosta in a heavier rainfall.

Taking on the Lasers (0-2) in their first match of the season, Cerritos dropped a tough match in the #1 position but swept their opponent in all four of the other matches. In the #2 spot, sophomore Leeya Rubio (Schurr HS) and freshman Josie Navarro (Sierra Vista HS) earned a solid 21-11, 22-20 win, while the pair of sophomore Monserrat Rodriguez (Gahr HS) and freshman Rosie Cazares-Gonzalez (El Rancho HS) cruised to a 21-13, 21-6 win to help secure the team victory.

As for the pair of freshman Nayeli SalasOrtiz (Schurr HS) and sophomore Brisa Cortez (Schurr HS), they earned a quick 21-8 win in the first set and then held off the Lasers with a 21-16 win in the second set. The quickest set of the morning came in the #5 position, as freshman Herlinda Casanova (St. Joseph HS) and Juliette Casillas (La Serna HS) registered a 21-5, 21-6 victory.

The loss to the Spartans (5-2) consisted of four sweeps, with the #5 duo of sophomore Breanna Lizarraga (Paramount HS) and freshman Evelyn Soto-Castro (Schurr HS) taking their match to a third set, but came up short, 16-21, 21-18, 7-15.
