In a season where the Cerritos College baseball team has eclipsed the 20-loss plateau, they could just as easily being a team hovering around the .500 mark. With their 4-3 South Coast Conference South Division loss to Long Beach City College on Saturday, it marked their seventh one-run loss of the season for the Falcons (8-21). A well-placed hit here and there and Cerritos would be in much better shape and in the hunt for second place in the division.

On Saturday, the Falcons took a 2-0 lead against the Vikings (16-11-1, 9-5), but surrendered the next four runs before getting within a run in the seventh inning. With the bases loaded in the top of the first inning after a fielder's choice, a single by sophomore second baseman Derrick Edwards (Mary Star of the Sea HS) and a walk to freshman first baseman Jesus Mercado (St. John Bosco HS), Cerritos took an early lead. Freshman outfielder Rolando Nichols (Serra HS) grounded out, but drove in a run for 1-0 advantage.

They added to their lead in the second inning on a Ramon Bramasco (Cathedral HS) single, which drove in freshman outfielder Micah Hee (Kamehameha, HI HS), who tripled with two outs.

Freshman starting pitcher Gilbert Romero (Alhambra HS) was hit for three runs in the bottom of the second inning, with the third run courtesy of an error. Aside from allowing a run in the fourth inning Romero (2-4) surrendered just two more hits and struck out five in seven innings of work.

Cerritos closed their deficit to 4-3 in the seventh inning when Bramasco led off with a single, and Edwards followed with a double. The bases were loaded after Mercado was hit by a pitch. With one out, freshman catcher Adam Rubio (Montebello HS) drove in a run with a sacrifice fly. The bases remained loaded after freshman outfielder Dominic Bravo (Warren HS) drew a walk, but freshman outfielder Matthew Hickman (La Mirada HS) fouled out to end the inning.
