Baseball: Trio of players named all-conference

A trio of Cerritos College baseball players have been named All-South Coast Conference South Division after a season where the team finished fourth in the division. Although the team went 14-26 on the season, 10 of those losses were by one run.

Earned 1st Team accolades was freshman outfielder Rolando Nichols (Serra HS), while freshman pitcher Gilbert Romero (Alhambra HS) and freshman shortstop Ramon Bramasco (Cathedral HS) were selected to the 2nd Team.

On the year, Nichols batted .268 with one home run and a team-high three triples and 27 RBI. He posted 11 multiple-hit games, including a 3-for-5 game against Pasadena City, while he also had a five-RBI game against the Lancers.

As for Romero, he led the team in starts (13), wins (4), innings pitched (78), strikeouts (51) and ERA (3.00). He won consecutive starts against Rio Hondo College and Pasadena City by pitching 14 1/3 combined innings and not allowing an earned run. Romero also tossed seven innings of two-hit ball in a win over Allan Hancock College and earned the win.

Bramasco finished second on the team with a .288 average and hit six doubles with one home run, 13 RBI and drew 21 walks. He also had a .955 fielding percentage and helped turn 29 doubles plays on the season. At the plate, Bramasco collected four three-hit games, including consecutive contests against Mt. San Antonio College and Pasadena City, while he had a seven-game streak where he went 13-for-28 (.464) and scored eight runs.
