For the first time in his career, Cerritos College baseball coach Ken Gaylord has seen his team seeded #1 for the Southern California Regional Playoffs. Gaylord, will lead his Falcons (29-11) to a best-of-three first round series against an opponent to be determined after the two play-in games. The team will host the lower remaining seed with the first game slated for 2:00 p.m. on Friday at Kincaid Field. Game two is set for 11:00 a.m. on Saturday with the 'if necessary' game scheduled for 30 minutes after the conclusion of the first game on Saturday.

On Tuesday, there will be a play-in game with the final four entries into the post-season, with #17 Los Angeles Pierce playing at #16 San Diego Mesa, and #18 Southwestern at #15 Cuesta. Cerritos will take on the lower remaining seed from the winners of those games.

The Falcons, who haven't reached a CCCAA State Championship game since 1995, still leads the state with nine championships, with their last coming in 1989. They captured the South Coast Conference South Division championship this season, as well.

On the year, Cerritos has faced nine teams that have advanced to the postseason and recorded a 10-7 record. Of those 17 games, five of them were one-run decision, with the Falcons going 2-3 in those contests.
