On Saturday afternoon at Kincaid Field, the Cerritos College baseball team peppered the Compton College pitching staff for 16 hits in an 11-0 South Coast Conference win. The victory by the Falcons (24-7, 9-4) completes the sweep over the Tartars (9-23, 1-13), with a four-game week in front of them. On Monday, the team will travel back to Pasadena City College to complete a suspended game from March 13. At the time the game was suspended, the Lancers held a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the sixth inning.

In each of the eight inning Cerritos batted, they put at least two runners on base, which helped them score in five different innings and leave 15 runners on base. Four of the first five runners that scored came with two outs, with Compton helping with a two-out error in the first inning that led to two runs. With sophomore designated hitter Ramon Bramasco (Cathedral HS) on second base and sophomore third baseman Jesus Mercado (St. John Bosco HS) on first base, a ground ball by freshman catcher Andre Alvarez (Walnut HS) appeared to be the final out. However, Tartars third baseman Shoma Yoshida's throw pulled first baseman Adrian Valtierra off the base. Running hard on the play, Bramasco came home to score. Freshman first baseman Michael Gonzalez (St. Bernard HS) followed with and RBI double.

Pitching well from the outset, sophomore starter Valentin Flores-Gomez (Gahr HS) went the first six innings and allowed just two hits, while striking out seven batters. He allowed a lead-off single to Nick Redick, but retired the next nine batters until walking Valtierra to lead off the fourth inning. The Tartars collected their second hit in the inning, but Flores-Gomez (5-1) got the next three batters out to keep them off the board. Sophomore Vincent Fuentes (El Rancho HS) pitched the seventh inning and allowed one hit, while sophomore Carlos Valle (Bell Gardens HS) struck out three batters in the final two innings.

Cerritos continued to get runners on base, and received RBI singles from sophomore outfielder Jakob Gonzalez (La Mirada HS/San Jose State University) and sophomore second baseman Rollie Nichols (Serra HS) in the fifth inning to increase the team's lead to 5-0. They put five runs on the board in the seventh inning on only three hits, thanks in part to four walks, two with the bases loaded to Mercado and Alvarez, coupled with a wild pitch that plated a run. Nichols, who went 4-for-5 with a walk, doubled in a run, while Bramasco capped off the scoring with an RBI single in the eighth inning.

Along with Nichols, Michael Gonzalez (3-for-3, walk, 2 RBI), Alvarez (2-for-5, walk, RBI) and Jakob Gonzalez (2-for-4, walk, RBI) also had multiple-hit games.
