Former Cerritos College cornerback D.J. Reed, who played one season (2015) for the Falcons, was drafted in the 5th Round of the NFL Draft by the San Francisco 49'ers. Reed, who transferred to Kansas State University and played two seasons for the Wildcats, was the 142nd overall pick. Reed completed his two-year Kansas State career with 122 tackles, seven interceptions and 32 passes defended. A 23-game starter at cornerback, he also picked up return duties as his career progressed, finishing with a 32.2-yard career average on kickoff returns to rank second in school history. A two-time First Team All-Big 12 pick as a defensive back, Reed was a 2017 Second Team All-American as both a kick returner (Walter Camp Foundation and Football Writers Association of America) and a defensive back (Pro Football Focus).
While with the Falcons, Reed, who was a red-shirt transfer from Fresno State University, posted 42 tackles, with three passes defended and a pair of interceptions. He also brought back six kickoffs for 146 yards (24.3 average) and 10 punt returns for 154 yards.
Additionally, former Cerritos All-American punter Corey Bojorquez, who spent the last two seasons at the University of New Mexico, will be attending a free agent tryout with the New England Patriots.
Reed is the first Falcon to be drafted since 2014, when safety Keith McGill was selected in the 4th Round by the Oakland Raiders. The two will be joined by running back Elijhaa Penny (Arizona Cardinals) and defensive tackle Kyle Peko (Denver Broncos), who were free agent signings, as former Cerritos players on current NFL rosters.
