Unquestionably the greatest running back to put on a Cerritos College uniform, sophomore Rhamondre Stevenson (Centennial, NV HS) has signed a National Letter of Intent with the University of Oklahoma. Stevenson, who broke the school record for most rushing yards in a season (2,111), also led the nation in rushing, while his total was the second most in a season in California Community College history. On the national level, Stevenson's total ranks sixth all-time, and was for 11 games, while two of the totals ahead of him were for 12 games.

Stevenson will be able to play alongside another former Falcon, defensive tackle Dillon Faamatau who played at Cerritos in 2016 and will be a senior next season.

The Sooners are preparing to take on the University of Alabama in the Capital One Orange Bowl on December 29, with the winner advancing to the NCAA National Championship game. Last year, they also qualified for the playoffs, but suffered an overtime loss to the University of Georgia.

One of the most highly recruited community college running backs in the country, Stevenson was offered scholarships from such schools as University of Texas, USC, University of Utah, Southern Miss, BYU, Kansas State University, University of Hawaii and many, many others.

"What made Oklahoma stand out was the history behind the university and the great running backs that have come out of OU was impressive," said Stevenson. "As well as the relationship I have with the coaching staff... it's great. I had countless conversations with my coaches, family and some close players on my team about their opinion on OU and what they think about me going down and playing ball in Norman. They all thought it was great opportunity for me, as did I."

"My trip to OU was actually my first one I've taken and what made me love Norman was the family atmosphere," said Stevenson. "Everyone was so welcoming and kind to me and my family and speaking to the current players in the roster, they absolutely loved living there and the fan love in Norman is unbelievable. Everyone there loves OU football."

Not only did Stevenson lead the country in rushing, he averaged 9.5 yards per carry and scored 16 touchdowns. On September 29, he scorched Long Beach City College for 339 yards on just 18 carries, which included touchdown runs of 70, 60 and 90 yards. He finished the season with five 200-yard rushing performances and had four games where he averaged over 10 yards per carry for the game.

Using his 6-1, 230-pound frame, Stevenson not only ran through defenders, as well as hurdling them, he also outran them by using his breakaway speed. For his efforts, Stevenson was named the National Division Central League Offensive Player of the Year by a unanimous vote. His offensive linemen were rewarded as well, as four of the five starters earned all-conference recognition and are being highly recruited.

"What I'll will remember most about playing at Cerritos is all my brothers on that team, and I'm going to miss them like crazy, as well as every single one of the coaches on the staff," added Stevenson. "They pushed me every day and my teammates and coaches are a big part of my success. Cerritos prepared me for the next level by my coaches trying to imitate and get us ready for what's going to go on at the next level which includes balancing school work, meetings, and practice. And conducting ourselves like adults which is vital at the next level."

"Rhamondre is the best running back to ever play at Cerritos College," said first-year head coach Dean Grosfeld, who also spent 23 years as an assistant coach and was the starting quarterback when Darrell Thompson set the college's rushing record of 1,527 in 1991, which Stevenson broke. "He is also a better person off the field. A great teammate with great work ethic and passionate about football. It was a joy to coach Rhamondre. He set a great example of what a Falcon should be and has set a high standard for the future."
