M. Soccer: Season opens with 3-0 win
Cerritos College freshman goalkeeper Brett Hughes (Long Beach Wilson HS) opened his career in fine fashion, as he made seven saves, while his offensive provided him with three goals, which led to a 3-0 win at Rio Hondo College on Wednesday. The Falcons (1-0-0) will continue their road trip, as they head up north to compete in the tough Hartnell Tournament. The team will open up on Friday, with the tournamenr running through Sunday.

The Falcons jumped off to the early lead in the fourth minute of game when sophomore midfielder Daniel Garcia (Artesia HS) brought down a cross with his chest and fed sophomore midfielder Oscar Enriquez (Cabrillo HS) with a one-time strike that found its way into the upper left hand corner in spectacular fashion. The score would stay that way until the second half when freshman forward Nicholas Escalante (California HS) would dribble past three defenders and finish off his dazzling play by feeding freshman forward Alessandro Bianchi (Porto Seguro, Brazil HS) for a quick one-time finish in the 55 minute for hsi first collegiate goal. Sophomore midfielder Dominic Escobar (Roosevelt HS) would close out the scoring after freshman mideidlder Jose Rivera (Torrance HS) fed him a brilliant chip over the defense and Escobar would run into the pass and flick it over the keeper for the 3-0 lead in the 65th minute.

All the while, the 6-5 Hughes was turning away the home Roadrunners, who are coached by former Cerritos assistant coach Orlando Brenes. Hughes faced seven shots on the day and posted four saves.
