The Cerritos College men's soccer team took advantage of an opportunistic break and parlayed that into the lone goal in a 1-0 non-conference win at Golden West College on Friday. Sophomore Thiago Lusardi (Centro Educational Ramos HS, Brazil) interrupted a Rustler play and transitioned into open space. He then crossed the ball from left to right, where freshman Jesus Maciel (Coronado, NV HS) collected the ball and placed it into the far post for what turned out to be the only goal of the game.

The Falcons (4-1-1), who outshot Golden West (2-3-0), 13-8, allowed the Rustlers an excellent chance to tie the game in the final seconds of the game. Sophomore goalkeeper Benito Gonzalez (Long Beach Wilson HS) caught the ball, dropped it and picked it up, which gave the Rustlers an indirect free kick. On that kick, Maciel absorbed the kick into his body, and Cerritos cleared the ball, with the official blowing the game over.

Gonzalez, who was appearing in his first game of the season, made four saves to earn the win. The team will now take 11 days off before they travel north to take on Taft College at 3:00 p.m. on September 24.
