In their final action before the South Coast Conference Tournament, the Cerritos College men's water polo team dropped three of four games at the Golden West Tournament over the weekend. The Falcons (15-11) lost their two games on Friday before splitting a pair of contest on Saturday. Cerritos will now compete in the conference tournament on November 3-4 at Mt. San Antonio College.

Cerritos vs. Golden West: Taking on the host Rustlers, who are also the top-ranked team in the state, the Falcons dropped a 15-4 score. It was a 2-2 contest after the first period with sophomores Bryan Santis (La Serna HS) and Salvador Orozco (Montebello HS) scoring for Cerritos. Golden West went on to score 13 of the final 15 goals in the game, including a 5-0 run in the second quarter to put some distance from them and the Falcons. Freshman Raul Muniz (Colbach HS, Mexico) scored the team's final two goals, while freshman Dylan Sun (Cerritos HS) posted four steals. Sophomore goalkeeper Matthew Contreras (Montebello HS) recorded eight saves in the first three quarters, with sophomore Jason Curiel (El Rancho HS) playing the fourth quarter.

Cerritos vs. San Joaquin Delta: In a hotly contested game, the Falcons trailed 9-5 in the fourth quarter until a late rally got them to within 9-8. But Cerritos ran out of time and suffered a 9-8 loss. Muniz and freshman Arturo Ortuno (Universidad La Salle, Mexico) scored in the fourth quarter to get the team to 9-7, with sophomore Julian Casillas (Harvard-Westlake HS/University of LaVerne) adding a goal with :29 seconds left. The Falcons were unable to got off a final shot as the Mustangs ran out the remainder of the clock. Muniz had three goals, two assists and two steals in the loss, with Casillas and sophomore Mark Arroyo (Schurr HS) both recording a pair of assists. Contreras made 10 saves in goal, while a quartet of players finished with three steals each.

Cerritos vs. American River: In their first game on Saturday, the Falcons trailed 2-1 in the first quarter before scoring the next five goals to take a 6-2 advantage. Leading 9-4 at halftime, they posted the first four goals of the third quarter to increase their lead to 13-4. Nine different players put their name in the scorebook, with Arroyo leading the way with three goals, while four players posted two goals each. Sophomore Nick Garcia (Montebello HS) led the way with three assists, with the duo of Muniz and Ortuno combining for nine of the team's 17 steals. Contreras and Curiel shared the goalkeeping duties and combined for 11 saves.

Cerritos vs. Riverside City: The tournament came to an end for the Falcons with a 13-3 setback at the hands of the Tigers. Riverside took an 8-2 lead at halftime and never looked back, as Cerritos could only convert three of their 25 shots in the game and also turned the ball over 12 times. Casillas scored two of the team's three goals, while Ortuno (four steals) and Muniz (three steals) played well on defense.
