Getting their first look at the location that will serve as the state championship course, the Cerritos College men's cross country team finished in sixth place at the Fresno Invitational on Saturday. Running at Woodward Park, the Falcons had two runners finish in the top 50 and compiled 159 points, with 18 full squads competing. The team will run the SoCal Preview Meet at Irvine Regional Park next Saturday.
Leading the way for Cerritos was sophomore Faustino Diaz (Warren HS), who placed 19th overall out of over 200 runners on the day. His time of 21:50.0 was park of a large pack of runners that were finishing the course within seconds of each other. Not far behind was freshman Cristhian Macias (Gardena HS), who completed the race in 22:06.5, which put him in 43rd place overall. The next two Falcon runners finished within :10 seconds of each other, which helped them secure the sixth place in the race. Sophomore Carlos Mendoza (Highland HS) was the 72nd runner to cross the finish line in a time of 22:12.2, with freshman Abraxaz Sanchez (Schurr HS) not far behind and locked down 108th place with a clocking of 22:22.7.
The fifth runner that helped compile the team scoring was freshman Jhamani Long (Gahr HS), who turned in a time of 23:03.0, which put him in 51st place overall. As a team, the Falcons had 13 competitors, and also included sophomore Anthony Lopez (Downey HS; 23:29.8, 59th place) and freshman Keith Turner (Centennial, NV HS; 23:54.2, 72nd place).
