Using a strong second quarter to open a sizeable lead, the Cerritos College women's basketball team posted a 60-39 win over host Grossmont College on Wednesday. The win improves the Falcons record to 2-3 on the year and will travel to West Los Angeles College for a 5:00 p.m. non-conference game next Tuesday.

Highlighting a 21-10 second quarter for Cerritos was the performance of freshman Rayne Rodriguez (La Serna HS), who accounted for eight of those points off the bench. After spotting the Griffins (0-4) a 7-2 lead to start the game, Cerritos went on to score the next 12 points, with Rodriguez scoring five points sophomore Melana Goodloe (Warren HS) adding four points and freshman Jayden Estrada (Anaheim HS) draining a three-pointer.

Rodriguez then scored the first five points to start the second quarter, which included a three-pointer, to help increase the lead to 20-9. Freshman Natalia Lopez (Downey HS) and Goodloe converted consecutive field goals to make it a 31-17 lead with 4:07 left in the first half. The lead swelled to 37-17, with the Falcons taking a 37-19 lead into halftime.

Grossmont did get as close a 41-33 in the third quarter with 3:38 left, while a Rodriguez three-pointer early in the fourth quarter extended the Cerritos lead to 48-33. The Griffins would get no closer, as the Falcons recorded the comfortable win.

Rodriguez finished the night with 22 points off the bench, which included going 7-for-14 from the field and also dished out four assists. Goodloe contributed 16 points and 11 rebounds, as well as six steals, with sophomore Damarie Saldivar (Paramount HS) turning in a solid all-around effort with 11 points, eight rebounds and four assists.
