W. Basketball: Quartet of players earn all-conference honors

After finishing in second place in the South Coast Conference South Division, the Cerritos College women's basketball team were rewarded with four players earning all-conference recognition. Sophomores Damarie Saldivar (Paramount HS) and Melana Goodloe (Warren HS) were voted to the 1st Team, while sophomore Miah Nayback (La Serna HS) and freshman Jayden Estrada (Anaheim HS) received 2nd Team honors. The Falcons finished the season with an 11-15 overall record.

Saldivar, the conference's Freshman Player of the Year last season, is a two-time 1st Team selection and led the Falcons in scoring on the year. She averaged 14.8 points a game, while her 4.8 rebounds were second on the team. She also led the Falcons in assists per game (3.8) and steals per game (2.7). She scored a career-high 29 points against Los Angeles Southwest College and finished with 28 points against MiraCosta College. On they year, Saldivar scored in double figures 20 times including the final eight games of the year. She also pulled down a career-high 12 rebounds in the game against MiraCosta and had a season-high nine assists against Los Angeles Harbor College.

As for Goodloe, she averaged 9.8 points and a team-leading 9.7 rebounds a game. She converted 44.6% of her field goals and led the team with 22 blocked shots. Goodloe scored a season-high 16 points in three of the team's first five games of the year and pulled down a career-high 21 rebounds against Bakersfield College. On the year, Goodloe posted eight double-doubles on the season, while she turned in a season-high five assists against Compton College.

Nayback, who started 24 of the team's 26 games on the year, averaged 7.0 points and 4.2 rebounds a game. Against Compton High, she scored a season-high 18 points, while following that with consecutive 15-point games against Los Angeles Southwest College and Los Angeles Harbor College. Nayback also had a season-best eight rebounds in four separate games and also had four assists in four other contests, which were season bests.

Estrada, who led the team with 36 three-pointers on the season, finished the season averaging 8.3 points and 3.3 rebounds a game. She knocked down a season-high six three-pointers in a 21-point game against Los Angeles Southwest College, while she scored in double-figures in six of the Falcons final nine games. She had 17 points against College of the Canyons and recorded a pair of 16-point games in conference play. Estrada also had a season-high seven rebounds against Canyons, while she dished out a season-high six assists against Grossmont College.
