After helping lead the Cerritos College wrestling team to a second place finish at the CCCAA State Championships, a quartet of state place winners have earned Academic All-American honors. Led by 157-pound state champion Kevin James, he was also joined by Richard Pocock, Wyatt Gerl and David Zavala.

James, who has already signed with Menlo College, compiled a 3.15 GPA, while two-time Academic All-American Richard Pocock recorded a 3.67 GPA. During the season, Pocock earned All-American honors after finishing fourth at 141 pounds after winning the Southern California championship. He has also signed with Hastings (NE) University). Zavala, a freshman, placed fourth at the state championships at 285 pounds and had a 3.77 GPA. As for Gerl, the freshman finished fifth at the state championships at 149 pounds and compiled a 3.37 GPA.

"Here at Cerritos College, we take our academics as seriously as we do our on the mat training", said head coach Donny Garriott. "These young men exemplify what it is to be a student-athlete. I am very proud of the work they do in and out of the classroom."

Cerritos had the second most Academic All-American selections in the state.
