With their 36-3 Southwest Conference win over host Santa Ana College on Wednesday night, the Cerritos College wrestling team remained undefeated on the year. The Falcons (13-0), ranked #1 in the state, will host their first match of the season next Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. when they welcome Rio Hondo College in a conference meeting.

In the win over the Dons, Cerritos won nine of the 10 matches, which included three pins and one by forfeit. Earning six team points with their pins were freshman 125-pound Norberto Buenrostro (Citrus Hill HS), who needed just 1:25 to polish off Eliso Medina, while freshman 174-pound Bryant Vasquez (Fountain Valley HS) pinned Zachary Ahrensfeld in the second period while leading, 4-1. Freshman 285-pound David Zavala (Lakewood HS) took just 1:57 to finish with match when he pinned Eddie Salgado, while freshman 197-pound David Van Weems (Corona Centennial HS) received a forfeit win.

Earning a technical fall win for the Falcons was sophomore 133-pound Anthony Vargas (Citrus Hill HS) with his 19-3 win that was ended early in the third period, while sophomore 157-pound Kevin James (Redondo Union HS) posted a major decision with a 12-3 victory. Freshman Wyatt Gerl (Downey Calvary Chapel HS) broke open a close 3-0 lead after two periods for an 8-2 win at 149 pounds, with sophomore Dylan Moreno (Downey HS) moving up to 165 pounds and earned an 8-4 win. Also posting a victory was freshman Blake Vasquez (Fountain Valley HS), with a 9-3 win at 184 pounds.
