On Friday at Mt. San Antonio College, the Cerritos College women's swimming team earned a win over Rio Hondo College, 197-38, but were defeated by the host Mounties, 182-79. The Falcons (2-2) will travel to Central California next weekend to compete in the Cuesta Invitational.
Sophomore Carolina Medrano (Schurr HS) won the team's only event on the day, while Cerritos had five individual second place finishes, while they took second in both relay races.
In the 200-yard butterfly, Medrano posted a winning time of 2:43.10, which was over four seconds ahead of Alexis Aguirre of Mt. San Antonio, who finished in second place. It was a second place finish in the 100-yard backstroke for Medrano (1:12.56), while her time of 1:08.89 was six seconds off the pace in the 100-yard butterfly, which earned her another second place result.
Also taking second place in events were freshmen Karina Oliveros (Downey HS) in the 1000-yard freestyle (13:08.55), Mia Carbajal (Schurr HS) in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:16.53) and Marisela Olivas (Schurr HS), whose time of 2:51.45 was the second best in the 200-yard backstroke. Teammates Elisabeth Stansell (Los Alamitos HS) and Nayeli Cisneros (Schurr HS) were a distant third and four places, respectively. Carbajal also finished third in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:52.89), while her time of 29.11 was fourth in the 50-yard freestyle. Freshman Amanda Acosta placed third in the race (28.78), while Elizabeth Megaw (West Torrance HS) turned in a third place time of 1:08.48 in the 100-yard freestyle.
The day opened with the 200-yard medley relay team of Medrano, Carbajal, Stansell and Acosta posting a second place time of 2:09.01, with Stansell, Oliveros, Olivas and Megaw capping off the day with a second place time of 4:28.80 in the 400-yard freestyle relay.
