W. Swimming: Team finishes fifth at conference championships

Spending the last three days competing in the South Coast Conference Championships, the Cerritos College women's swimming team finished in fifth place. The Falcons finished with 294 team points.

Day 1 - 
Sitting in sixth place after the first day of the conference championships, the Falcons did see sophomore Mia Carbajal (Schurr HS) turn in a personal best time in the 200-yard IM. Entering the event with the 10th fastest seed time, Carbajal shaved almost 20 seconds off her time to come in seventh place with a clocking of 2:38.39. In the 400-yard medley relay, the quartet of Angelina Romero (Schurr HS), Carbajal, Kaya Glynn (Cerritos HS) and Jillian Crockett (Cerritos HS) finished in fifth place when they touched up in 4:41.81.

Day 2 - Holding steady in sixth place after the second day, Cerritos picked up points in the 1-meter diving event, as freshman Alexis Cummings (Mayfair HS) placed fourth with 106.85 team points. That event was followed by the Falcons recording a fourth place result in the 200-yard medley relay, as the quartet of Romero, Carbajal, Glynn and Crockett in a time of 2:04.84.

Swimming in the toughest race of the day, Glynn came in fourth place in the 400-yard IM with a time of 5:17.82, while Romero was the eighth place finisher in 5:32.77. Glynn also earned the team points in the 100-yard butterfly with a clocking of 1:08.95, which earned her an eighth place finish. Carbajal was battling for the championship in the 100-yard breaststroke, but her time of 1:13.21 was off the winning mark and had to settle for third place. She finished in second place in the prelims.

The 100-yard backstroke resulted in a seventh place finish for Crockett with her time of 1:12.37. The day ended with the team missing out on recording any more points, as they were disqualified in the 800-yard freestyle when one of the swimmers was charged with an early take-off.

Day 3 - Romero opened the third day by finishing in seventh place in the 1650-yard freestyle with a time of 21:11.98, with Crockett posting a sixth place time in the 200-yard backstroke at 2:42.36. 

Samantha Wisher (La Serna HS) earned the team points by coming in eighth in the 100-yard freestyle with a clocking of 1:04.02, while Glynn's time of 2:42.14 put her in sixth place in the 200-yard butterfly.

The championships came to a close with the Falcons coming in fifth place in the 400-yard freestyle relay in a time of 4:12.92 and consisted of Crockett, Wisher, Karina Oliveros (Downey HS) and Glynn.
