It was the first meet of the season for the Cerritos College women's cross country team on Saturday at Carbon Canyon Park in Brea for the Mark Covert Classic. The Falcons, who had just five entries in the meet, compiled 610 team points and finished 20th out of 21 schools and running teams that competed. Next Saturday, the team will run at the Fresno Invitational, which is the same location for the CCCAA State Championships and will take place at Woodward Park.
The first Cerritos runner to finish the 5K race was Valeria Guerra (Warren HS), who posted a time of 23:19.7, which put her in 172nd place out of 200 total runners. Finishing :50 seconds behind Guerra was Xitlali Pulido (Whittier HS), who came in 180th place overall with a clocking of 24:09.8. Not far behind her was Charlotte Barrera (El Rancho HS), who completed the course in a time of 24:33.4, for a 183rd overall placing.
Next up for the Falcons was Yvonne Villalba (Los Alamitos HS) in a time of 25:28.0, which earned her a 189th place finish, with Glenn Nance (Gardena HS) the fifth runner. She posted a 197th place time of 28:13.3).
