With a pair of wins in the relay events and taking the top two spots in four other events, the Cerritos College men's swimming team defeated host El Camino College, 146-129 in a South Coast Conference meet on Friday. The Falcons (4-1) will now host both Chaffey College and Los Angeles Trade-Tech College in a conference meet at 12:30 p.m on Friday.

It was the ability to win five events on the day and also earn extra points by coming in second place in four of those that helped propelled Cerritos to the win. In one of those races, the Falcons took the top three scoring positions, while they earned second place points in fouth other events.

In the opening event, the 200-yard medley relay, the quartet of Jason Ly (Villa Park HS), Marlon Moreno (Virgen del Rosario HS, Venezuela), Joshua Owens (Kennedy HS) and Angel Rojas (Fray Luis Amigo HS, Venezuela) turned in a first place time of 1:43.03. The same foursome won the 400-yard freestyle relay to conclude the day with a clocking of 3:23.21 and won by 15 seconds.

One of the best events for Cerritos on the day was the 100-yard butterfly, which was won by Owens in 54.10, with teammate Daryl DaSilva (Cerritos HS) a distant second in 1:01.78. More team points were accrued by Matthew Skinas (La Serna HS) with his third place time of 1:03.77. Moreno won two events, taking the 50-yard freestyle in a time of 22.80 and he barely edged Rojas, who touched up in 22.88. It was a time of 1:03.37 that earned Moreno first place in the 100-yard breaststroke, with Daniel Loeza (Hamilton HS) taking second place in 1:10.76.

Isiah Gayton (Whittier HS) won the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:17.44, while Miguel Guerrero (South Gate HS) picked up a second place finish in 2:30.89. Also earning a first place finish for Cerritos was Ly, who turned in a time of 2:05.78 in the 200-yard backstroke, while he placed second in the 100-yard backstroke in 57.32 and was edged by David Thomas of El Camino, who won the event in 57.23.

Rojas was a close second place in the 100-yard freestyle (49.40), with Hogan Inscore of El Camino winning in 49.20. As for Owens, he placed second in the 200-yard freestyle (1:52.49), while Loeza was a close second place in the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:36.24.
