M: Swimming & Diving: Team wins two relay events at finals

The Cerritos College men's swimming team won both relay events held on the first day of the South Coast Conference Championships at East Los Angeles College. In winning the 400-yard medley relay, the Falcons set a new school record. They finished the first day in second place with 183 team points with two more days of competition.

In the last event of the day, the foursome of Jason Ly (Villa Park HS), Marlon Moreno (Virgen del Rosario, Venezuela), Joshua Owens (Kennedy HS) and Angel Rojas (Fray Luis Amigo, Venezuela) recorded a time of 3:33.43, which was one second ahead of second place Mt. San Antonio College and broke the old mark of 3:35.91 set 10 years ago at the state championships.

The same four swimmers posted a first place time of 1:27.16 to win the 200-yard freestyle relay and edged second place Long Beach City College by a little over a second. Ly swam the 200-yard IM and earned third place with a clocking of 2:00.90, with the duo of Moreno (21.84) and Owens (21.99) placing third and fourth, respectively in the 50-yard freestyle. Moreno just missed out on second place, which was a time of 21.81 by Hogan Inscore of El Camino.

In the 3-meter diving competition that took place at week at El Camino College, freshman Nicholas Silos (Servite HS) earned a second place finish with 108.10 points. Prior to competing for the Falcons, Silos had never been a diver.
