M. Swimming: Falcons compete in final tune-up

In their final invitational before the start of the South Coast Conference Championships, the Cerritos College men's swimming team competed in just a few events at the Pasadena Invitational on Friday. The Falcon swimmers will take part in the conference championships at East Los Angeles College from April 16-18, which is the week after the conference diving championships.

The team posted a strong sixth place finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:29.50 and consisted of Marlon Moreno (Virgen del Rosario, Venezuela), Jason Ly (Villa Park HS), Angel Rojas (Fray Luis Amigo, Venezuela) and Joshua Owens (Kennedy HS). That same quartet also took seventh place in the 400-yard medley relay with a clocking of 3:43.39.

In individual races, Rojas posted the 13th place time of 5:01.69 in the 500-yard freestyle, with three other teammates also competing in the event. The 200-yard IM time of 2:08.18 by Moreno placed him 27th out of 63 entries, with Owens right behind in 2:08.44 and came in 28th place. Moreno also touched up in 22.48 in the competitive 50-yard freestyle to finish 19th out of 127 swimmers. Owens (22.73; 24th place), Rojas (23.22; 34th place) and Ly (23.28; 37th place) all posted strong times.

Freshman diver Nicholas Silos (Servite HS) earned second place in the 3-meter diving competition with 144.75 points.
