M. Swimming & Diving: Falcons finish championships in second place

With four championships in five of the relay races, the Cerritos College men's swimming team finished in second place at the three-day South Coast Conference Championships at East Los Angeles College. The Falcons accrued 571 team points, but still were a distant second place behind Mt. San Antonio College, who had 780 team points. The four relay championship teams are likely to qualify for the CCCAA State Championships, which will take place from April 30 to May 2 at East Los Angeles College.

The same foursome of Jason Ly (Villa Park HS), Joshua Owens (Kennedy HS), Angel Rojas (Luis Fray Amigo, Venezuela) and Marlon Moreno (Virgen del Rosario, Venezuela) won all four of the conference championships. They capped off the SCC Championships with a time of 3:11.47 to capture the 400-yard freestyle relay.

The trio of Owens (47.46), Moreno (48.04) and Rojas (48.12) came in third through fifth places, respectively in the 100-yard freestyle. The entire race was tight from start to finish, but Hogan Inscore of El Camino College turned in a winning time of 47.14 Also competing in individual races on Saturday were Ly, who took third place in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 1:57.42, while the time of 2:06.69 earned Albert Kim (Cerritos HS) a sixth place finish. Isiah Gayton (Whittier HS) swam in the finals of the 200-yard butterfly and recorded a sixth place time of 2:08.74.
