Through the first five games of the season, the Cerritos College baseball team has won three times at home and dropped both road games. On Saturday, the Falcons (3-2) found themselves behind 10-0 in a non-conference game at Oxnard College and went on to drop an 11-2 decision. The team will return home on Tuesday to host Ventura College at 2:00 p.m. at Kincaid Field. The Pirates defeated Cerritos, 7-4 last week.

Sophomore starting pitcher Jared Robinson (Bishop Amat HS) struggled in the first inning, as he hit the second batter he faced and then allowed a double, followed by a two-run single and then another base hit. After loading the bases when he hit another batter, Robinson (1-1) got a fielder's choice out at the plate and then a ground ball to end the inning. A pair of walks and a single loaded the bases with one out in the third inning. That was followed by a throwing error from freshman second baseman Victor Gudalaupe (La Quinta HS) that allowed two runs to score.

The bottom fell out in the fifth inning against freshman relief pitcher Ryan Arambula (Bell Gardens HS), as he allowed a double, hit batter and then his own throwing error that allowed a run. After recording an out and then issuing a walk, Arambula gave up a two-run single and before the inning was over, a three-run home run.

Cerritos pushed across single runs in the sixth and eighth innings to account for their offense. Freshman outfielder Kyle Carpenter (Mayfair HS) and sophomore third baseman Hayden Stevens (Katella HS) clubbed one-out singles, which set the table for Guadalupe, who reached base on an error that allowed Carpenter to score. On the play, Guadalupe attempted to advance to second base, but was thrown out. The Falcons were unable to generate any more runs.

In the eighth inning, sophomore Johnny Martinez (Katella HS) led off with a double, followed by a Carpenter walk. The two advance a base on a wild pitch before Stevens brought home Martinez with a sacrifice fly. After a walk to freshman Justin Walsh (Katella HS), the inning came to an end when Luis Flores (Bell HS) grounded into a double play.

On the day, Carpenter went 2-for-3, while freshman designated hitter Frank Vargas was 2-for-4.
