Just two outs away from gaining sole possession of first place in the South Coast Conference, the Cerritos College baseball team allowed Mt. San Antonio College to score three runs in the bottom of the ninth inning and post an 8-7 win. The Falcons (19-11, 12-5) led 7-5 heading into the bottom of the ninth inning and brought in sophomore Jared Robinson (Bishop Amat HS) to finish the game. He allowed two singles and a walk to load the bases before Caleb Romo cleared the bases with a double to end the game.

Cerritos, who's in a tie for first place with East Los Angeles, close out their series against the Mounties (15-13, 10-7) at noon on Saturday at Kincaid Field. With four conference games remaining, there are five teams in contention for the championship. The Falcons and Huskies lead El Camino and Long Beach City by one game, while Mt. SAC is two games back.

The Falcons scored the first seven runs in the game and appeared to have it locked up. But in the bottom of the fifth inning, Mt. San Antonio started to chip away at the lead and chased sophomore starter Dylan Algra (Valley Christian HS), who was charged with four runs. After sophomore Jacob Northcutt (Summerville HS) pitched 2/3 of an inning, the duo of Ryan Arambula (Bell Gardens HS) and Elpidio Martin (Lynwood HS) limited the Mounties to just one hit in 2 2/3 innings. Robinson, who will be the starting pitcher on Saturday, struggled to get an out and Mt. SAC was able to complete the comeback.

Offensively, Robinson went 2-for-5 and provided his own bases loaded double to help the Falcons take a 4-0 lead in the top of the second inning. Sophomore outfielder Jose Ayala (Maywood Academy HS) collected three hits, including an RBI triple, with freshman second baseman Victor Guadalupe (La Quinta HS) also posting a pair of hits.
