The Cerritos College baseball team won their fifth straight game on Tuesday, as they defeated East Los Angeles College, 2-0 in a South Coast Conference game. The win by the Falcons (14-9, 7-3) moves the team to within one game of the first place Huskies (16-7, 8-2), who will come to Kincaid Field on Thursday for a 2:30 p.m. game.

Freshman pitcher Kyle Carpenter (Mayfair HS) tossed a three-hit shutout to improve to 4-2 on the year, while he also struck out nine batters. After retiring the first nine batters, Carpenter allowed a pair of singles to lead off the fourth inning. A groundout advanced the runners before Michael Aguilar was hit by a pitch to load the bases with one out. A pop-up by Eduardo Pedroza was followed with Carpenter picking off Aguilar at first base to end the inning.

Carpenter allowed a two-out single in the sixth inning and the only Huskies baserunners the remainder of the game came via Falcon errors. Catcher's interference was called against sophomore Chris Carrillo (St. Paul HS/San Jose State University) in the eighth, while sophomore third baseman Hayden Stevens (Katella HS) opened the ninth inning with an error. But Carpenter worked out of both situations, including striking out three straight batters in the ninth inning to end the game.

Offensively, Cerritos scored single runs in the fourth and sixth inning to give Carpenter some room to work with. In the fourth, sophomore outfielder Jared Robinson (Bishop Amat HS) led off with a single and moved to second base on a sacrifice. Sophomore first baseman Jose Romero (Whittier HS) got the Falcons on the board with an RBI single. It was Robinson who once again led off an inning the team scored in, as he singled. Stevens followed with a single, with Robinson advancing to third base. Freshman shortstop Daniel Lopez (Montebello HS) drove in Robinson with a sacrifice fly as an insurance run.
