Limited to just four hits, the Cerritos College baseball team was shut out by Long Beach City College in a South Coast Conference game at Kincaid Field on Thursday. The Falcons (9-9, 2-3) will take on the Vikings on Saturday at noon at Joe Hicks Memorial Field in the third game of their series.

Sophomore starting pitcher Dylan Algra (Valley Christian HS) did not allow a hit to Long Beach City until the fifth inning when Stefan Miladinovich singled with one out. After an infield out and a walk to Yamel Delgado, Jake Reinhardt singled into center field to drive in Miladinovich with the first run of the game. The Vikings added an unearned run in the sixth inning when Nolan Flashman reached on an infield single with two outs. Daniel Pitts followed with a single to left field that freshman Kyle Carpenter (Mayfair HS) allowed to get past him, which resulted in Flashman racing around the bases for the second run.

Cerritos threatened Manuel Barragan, who tossed a complete game and struck out seven batters, in the first three innings. The Falcons opened the game with the first two batters reaching base on errors, but ran out of the inning when sophomore Johnny Martinez (Katella HS) was thrown out trying to steal third base for the second out of the inning. Sophomore catcher Chris Carrillo (St. Paul HS/San Jose State University) was hit by a two-out pitch in the second inning and sophomore first baseman Jose Romero (Whittier HS) drew a walk. But freshman second baseman Justin Walsh (Katella HS) grounded out to end the inning.

Martinez and Carpenter started the third inning with the team's first two hits of the game. Consecutive fielder's choices cut down Martinez and third base and sophomore outfielder Jared Robinson (Bishp Amat HS) before freshman designated hitter Frank Vargas (El Rancho HS) struck out. The Falcons also stranded two runners on base in the sixth inning and had the leadoff batter on base in the ninth, but could not crack into the scoring column.
