Knowing that a win on Saturday at Mt. San Antonio College would not only give them the series sweep, the Cerritos College baseball team would have pulled into a tie for first place in the South Coast Conference. However, as 6-2 loss to the Mounties drops the team two games back of the top spot with just three series remaining in the regular season. The Falcons (24-7, 11-4) will host East Los Angeles College on Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. at Kincaid Field in the first of a three-game series.

Trailing 2-0 heading into the top of the fifth inning, Cerritos would score a single run, only to see the Mounties respond with one of their own. It was the same formula in the sixth inning, with Mt. SAC adding two more runs in the seventh inning to close out the scoring.

Sophomore second baseman Dylan Immel (El Segundo HS) led off the fifth inning with a base hit, but was thrown out at the plate on a triple by freshman third baseman Mateo Heredia (El Segundo HS). Sophomore catcher Nate Gardenswartz (Long Beach Wilson HS) drove in Heredia with a sacrifice fly. The Falcons loaded the bases in the sixth inning, which included an error, a single by freshman designated hitter Brody Cuellar (Bishop Montgomery HS) and a walk to freshman first baseman Wyatt Ormonde (Long Beach Millikan HS). After a pitching change, sophomore outfielder Isaiah Rios (St. John Bosco HS) hit into a fielder's choice, which drove in the team's second run of the game. They ended up leading the bases loaded.

Starting pitcher Derek Valdez (Los Alamitos HS) was touched up for four runs on eight hits through six innings and absorbed his second loss of the season. At the plate, Ormonde drew three walks.
