After the first overtime period, the Cerritos College men's basketball team appeared to be on their way to a South Coast Conference South Division win over visiting El Camino College on Friday. They took a four-point lead (70-66) with 2:43 left, but failed to score the remainder of the game and fell, 72-70 to the Warriors (8-15 4-3). The Falcons (10-17, 3-4) close out the season on Wednesday with a 5:00 p.m. game at Long Beach City College.

At the end of the first overtime, Cerritos had one last chance to pull out the win. Sophomore guard Taylor Douglas (Mayfair HS) was fouled with :27 seconds left and missed the front end of a one-and-one situation with the score tied at 64-64. The Falcons got the rebound and called timeout to set up the final shot. With time running down, sophomore Micah Winn (Crenshaw HS) turned the ball over with :04 seconds left and the game went to a second overtime.

Winn opened the second extra period with his sixth three-pointer on the night and after sophomore Jeff Gonzalez (Riverside Poly HS/Riverside City College) netted a jumper and sophomore Josh Bell (Long Beach Wilson HS) converted one of two free throws, Cerritos led, 70-66.

A pair of free throws from El Camino's Ryan Hicks, followed by a Bell turnover and layup by Derrick Twiggs tied the game at 70-70 with 1:53 remaining. However, Cerritos would miss their last five shots, including three in one frenzy under the basket, as well as missing the front end of two one-and-one situations. A Malik Wildermuth running jumper as the shot clock expired turned out to be the winning basket with :06 seconds remaining. Gonzalez got off a long three-pointer, but it was short.

Winn led all scorers with 20 points, while Bell had a fantastic game with 17 points, 17 rebounds and three steals. Gonzalez finished with 14 points and three assists, while freshman Jonathan Brown (Fairfax HS) posted seven points and five assists. Wildermuth and Hicks each scored 17 points to lead El Camino.
