The Cerritos College men's basketball team ended their season with a chance to go out on a winning note. Trailing by a point with 3.6 seconds left against host Long Beach City College, freshman guard Jonathan Brown (Fairfax HS) saw his jumper just miss, and the Falcons dropped a 68-67 decision. It ends the season for Cerritos (10-18, 3-5), who just last year were one win away from making the state final four.

The two teams battled from start to finish, but in the second half, LBCC took a 14-point lead (46-32) after a three-point play by Michael Shivers with 14:38 remaining. A pair of three-pointers from freshman Jay Merriweather (Temescal Canyon HS) started the Falcons comeback. By the time Brown converted a layup with 8:07 remaining, Cerritos had taken a 57-56 lead.

It was a 63-63 game after a pair of free throws by sophomore Micah Winn (Crenshaw HS) with 2:22 left and Winn tied the game again at 65-65 on a layup with 1:54 on the clock. The Vikings netted three of their final free throws, with Cerritos missing two of their final four. On the night, the Falcons were 25of-46 from the free throw line, which included going 12-for-25 in the second half.

Sophomore Josh Bell (Long Beach Wilson HS) led the team with 19 points and pulled down 12 rebounds, while sophomore Jeff Gonzalez (Riverside Poly HS/Riverside City College) accounted for 13 points and 14 rebounds. Winn added 13 points, with Merriweather contributing 13 points off the bench. Brandon Staton led the Vikings with 18 points.
