Taking on the state's leader in team scoring, the Cerritos College men's basketball team scored a season-high in points, as they defeated El Camino College, 117-100. The South Coast Conference South Division win improves the team's record to 16-4 overall, while they are now 1-0 in divisional play. The Falcons will travel to Compton College on Friday for a 6:00 p.m. divisional game.

In addition to the Warriors (5-12, 0-1) leading the state in scoring, they also allow the most points per game, and surrendered over 100 points for the 13th time this season. Last year, the teams played to a 129-125 overtime game won by the Falcons.

On the night, Cerritos shot an amazing 65% from the field and scored 94 of their points in the paint. It was a hectic back-and-forth game for 40 minutes, with the frenetic play resulting in a combined 55 turnovers. The longest the teams went without scoring was 1:33, with points coming in bunches all night. A combined 42 fouls also resulted in the teams combining to attempt 57 free throws.

The turnovers, combined with the up-tempo, allowed the duo of sophomores Keshaun Mack (Long Beach Jordan HS/Antelope Valley College) and Demetrius Thomas (Bassick, CT HS/Porterville College) to shoot a collective 23-of-31 from the field, as each scored a game-high 26 points. Thomas, who played 26 minutes off the bench, also pulled down a game-high 12 rebounds and dished out four assists. Sophomore Jason Carter (View Park HS/Santa Monica College) recorded the team's second double-double on the night with 10 points and 10 rebounds, while Mack also registered seven assists and five rebounds.

Cerritos led, 57-42 at intermission after shooting 66% from the field, compared the 37% for El Camino. A good three-point shooting team, the style of play didn't require the Falcons to shoot from long distance, as they went 1-for-6 on the night. By contrast, the quick-triggered Warriors were 10-of-44 from three-point range.

Also playing well for the Falcons were sophomore Jonathan Guzman (Paramount HS), who had 12 points, five rebounds and four assists, with freshman Isaiah Tyler (Redondo Union HS) coming off the bench to produce 12 points and five rebounds. All 11 players who saw action scored, with 10 of them dishing out at least one assist and nine accounting for at least one rebound.
