Led by the trio of sophomores Darron Henry (Long Beach Poly HS), Spencer Ezewiro (Paramount HS/Moberly Area, MO CC) and Marcel Hayes (Long Beach Poly HS), the Cerritos College men's basketball team had five players named to the All-South Coast Conference South Division teams. The three were voted to the 1st Team, while sophomore Andrew Mata (Schurr HS/Holy Cross, IN College) and freshman Blake Brewer (Orange Lutheran HS) were selected honorable mention.
Throughout the season, Henry was the Falcons most versatile player, as he led the team in scoring at 13.7 points per game, while the point guard also dished out a team-high 5.3 assists per game and pulled down 3.4 rebounds a game. Henry also leads the team with an 85% free throw percentage (85-for-100), which is the highest since Jalen Washington converted 89.6% (69-for-77) of his free throws in 2019-20. He scored in double figures 22 times, which included a season-high 26 points against Compton College and also produced 24 points against both Cerro Coso College and Long Beach City College. Additionally, Henry pulled down a season-high eight rebounds against Santa Monica College and had at least six caroms in four other games, while he dished out a season-high 12 assists in the game against Santa Monica. He turned in at least six assists 12 other times.
Ezewiro has made the most of his season with the Falcons, as he is second on the team with a 12.2 scoring average and leads the team with a 9.1 rebounding average and has converted 53.4% of his field goals. Ezewiro turned in a 25-point game against Los Angeles Southwest College and had 24 points against Pasadena City College. He's scored in double-digits in 18 games and pulled down a season-high 18 rebounds in the final regular season game against LA Southwest. Ezewiro has turned in a 16-rebound performance against College of the Canyons and has nine double-doubles.
The top player off the bench, Hayes led the team in scoring during conference play at 14.0 ppg and is third on the year at 11.8 points per game and also averages 4.2 rebounds a game. Hayes saved his best for conference play, as he turned in consecutive 20-point performances against Compton College (22 points) and Los Angeles Harbor College (20 points). He also scored 19 points against El Camino College and has a trio of 18-point performances. Hayes pulled down a season-high 10 rebounds against LA Southwest and had at least five caroms in 13 different games.
Mata, the team-leader with 75 three-pointers on the year, averaged 9.1 points a game, while Brewer also averages 9.1 points a game, while he also pulls down four rebounds a game. Mata has hit at least four three-pointers in eight games, which included a 7-for-9 performance against Santa Monica College, which led to a 23-point performance. he also went 5-for-5 from three-point range against Compton College for 17 points. Brewer, who has averaged 12.0 points a game in the final four games, which includes a 16-point game against LA Harbor. He has also pulled down a season-high eight rebounds three times.
