Facing a pair of colleges that historically have fielded teams of international players, the Cerritos College men's tennis team embarked on the weekend looking for a pair of big wins. The end result was a close 5-4 setback against Santa Barabar City College on Friday, followed by an 8-1 defeat at the hands of Ventura College on Saturday. The Falcons (4-3) will now head to College of the Desert for a 2:00 p.m. non-conference game and face another international-heavy team.

Santa Barbara City 5, Cerritos 4: The Vaqueros (1-1) have announced that their men's tennis program will be suspended after the 2013 season. But it didn't deter a roster full of international players from coming to compete. Cerritos split the six singles matches, including a pair of third set tie-breakers, but dropped two of the three doubles matches. The #3 team of Julian Avila (Paramount HS) and Gianni Jeong (Cerritos HS) fought hard in their match, but came up short, 9-7 in the deciding match.

Ventura 8, Cerritos 1: Facing another group of international players, the Falcons were only able to secure one victory, as freshman Nathan Eshmade (Kings Baptist HS, Australia) recorded a 6-4, 6-4 win over Vitor Mendes in the #1 singles position. Cerritos was swept in the other five singles matches by the Pirates (3-0) and had one close doubles match when sophomore Todd Jenkins (Cabrillo HS) and freshman Maurice Grijalva (Gardena HS) were defeated, 8-6 in the #2 spot.
